| White Oak Bark contains strong astringent properties that can be used for both external and internal bleeding. It is an excellent cleanser for inflamed areas of the skin and mucous membranes. It heals damaged tissues in the stomach and intestines. It has been used for excess stomach mucus which causes common complaint of sinus congestion and post-nasal drip. It relieves the stomach by strengthening it for better internal absorption and secretion and thus improving metabolism.
White oak is the classic example of an astringent herb. It contains high amounts of calcium and tannins that act by precipitating protein to tighten the tissues of the body. Tannins have been used as astringents and styptics in cases of anal fissures and hemorrhoids; also to halt diarrhea and dysentery.
