| The function of the kidneys is to excrete urine which contains the end products of metabolism and to help regulate the wastes, electrolyte and acid base content of the blood. Nephritis is an inflammation of the kidneys.
Avoid food that contain oxalic acid, caffeine, theobromine and caffeal (more concentrated in decaffeinated coffee). They are irritating to the kidneys. Coffee, chocolate and excessive meat should be avoided.
